A kidney-friendly diet, also referred to as a renal-friendly diet, is specifically designed to regulate the levels of protein, phosphorus, and sodium in one’s daily food intake. Although the body requires protein for muscle growth and tissue repair, individuals with kidney disease face challenges in eliminating waste generated during protein metabolism. As a result, a kidney diet may involve moderating protein consumption to prevent the buildup of waste products. Additionally, phosphorus control may be necessary to prevent the loss of calcium and maintain bone health, while sodium restriction helps manage blood pressure levels. In some cases, a kidney-friendly diet may also include higher amounts of fats and carbohydrates compared to a standard diet.<\/p>\n

To compensate for reduced calorie intake from protein, kidney-friendly diets often incorporate high-calorie foods such as unsaturated fats like vegetable oils, sugary treats like candy and jelly, and canned fruits in heavy syrup.<\/p>\n
