GFR calculator

Also known as: glomerular filtration rate calculator

The glomerular filtration rate (GFR) serves as a valuable tool for determining a patient’s stage of kidney disease. It primarily relies on assessing the level of creatinine present in the bloodstream. To estimate the GFR, a mathematical equation is employed, incorporating factors such as age and gender. In some cases, optional variables like weight, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and serum albumin may be considered to determine the patient’s GFR level. Once the GFR level is determined, it provides insight into the stage of kidney disease.

When using the GFR calculator, you will be prompted to input your age, gender, and serum creatinine level, which measures the waste product in the blood originating from muscle activity. Normally, the kidneys remove creatinine, but as kidney function declines, creatinine levels increase. This valuable result can be obtained through blood work ordered by a physician.
