The kidneys house approximately one million small clusters of intertwined blood vessels, each of which is referred to as a glomerulus. In plural, we term them glomeruli. Each glomerulus is linked to a petite tube called a tubule, and this combination of a glomerulus and tubule is recognized as a nephron. Remarkably, there are around one million nephrons in each kidney within the body.
The primary function of the glomeruli is to filter the blood, allowing waste products and fluids to pass through the tubule, eventually transforming into urine. In cases where an individual experiences glomerular (kidney) disease, it signifies that their glomeruli are no longer operating as they should.
